I once got really really drunk with Alex with the intention of going to Ben’s and then blacked out. I dreamed that I threw up in Ben’s and everyone hated me, turns out I threw up in the Metro and everyone hated me. I also woke up with 20 dollar bills strewn around my room and didn’t know why. Turns out I pulled out 80 dollars out of an atm to get one half smoke.

Also the night I dumped half a flask of whiskey in a milkshake, drank all of it on the train back into DC (because I had to bring Yitzy home first), stood up, and realized I had forgotten I had dumped whiskey in my milkshake. The next morning, I realized I had also packed a Nalgene full of Steel Reserve in my purse. Before we turned into total wrecks, this is what we looked like.

Also, everything was premeditated. We had discussed getting drunk and going to Ben’s for how long before we actually did it?

How Luxury Goods Affect the Brain and Drive More Purchases:

Patrick and Hagtvedt term this “aesthetic incongruity resolution.” We call it not being shamed by your classy, design-conscious friends.

It turns out consumers are subsceptible to, well, pretty things. Over three years, the 125 participants’ spending habits for shoes, necklaces and furniture were tracked. Participants were given high-end products from either “designer” labels or from luxury retailers that frequently clashed with their aesthetic tastes. After a period of time, subjects were offered the chance to return the products in exchange for money or to keep the product obtained through the study. (A scientific study that gives away luxury goods? Sweet!)

The vast majority of participants opted to keep the luxury goods instead of returning them—and also admitted to buying a slew of cheaper items to complement their luxury product.

In which Fast Company, like, calls out the middle class or something (note: I would actually be really interested to see a breakdown of this by income because I could see it being true across the board).

Also, though they got “affect” right in the title, the link spelling is “effect.” I THINK both are appropriate (“effect” can be used to mean a result, but “affect” is used on topics of psychology) but still. CONSISTENCY.

I am wearing a flannel shirt and men’s long underwear and I look ridiculous, but it’s SO worth it because I am warm enough to not actually hate all the snow. I took 2 exams today and now I’m going to drink beer and read all night. I’m pretty sure this means I win.

You see this lovely lady? She’s pretty rad and Im excited to join her in her flannel shirt wearing, beer drinking, mens long underwear wearing, snow hating, celebrations come my last final on Saturday. Also it’s that smug half face that made me fall in love with her in the first place.
